Brrr! Fall is here. Per NWS — Tonight: Patchy frost after 11pm. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 44. It’s a cool rainy morning. Wish it could stay like this all week, but I’ll appreciate it while it lasts. I love this weather! It’s been unpleasantly hot for several days. I could wax poetic and claim the back yard has been burnished golden by the sun, but really it’s just roasted, wilted and parched — except for the blackberry brambles and grape vines, which are green and thriving. This weekend, averaging around a muggy 110+ outside with a nice [...] Not my favorite weather: it’s supposed to get up to 100 today. I’m sure it will be hotter, with terrible air quality to match. MMM SMOG. Whinge alert. I find myself feeling a little out of sorts today, and I’m not sure why. It could be the weather. We went from freezing temperatures and high winds last week to record breaking heat this week. And there was nickel-sized hail last night. It’s bizarre. Unpredictable. All of this means [...] The wind is gusting, rushing through the treetops. It sounds like the surf. . . except when the ash and apple tree branches split and crack under the weight of rain and age and rot. A strangely harmonious counterpoint to this is Aya splashing and singing in the bathtub. She’s in her element.
I tried explaining Labor Day to Aya, but she had some trouble with the concept of people who work not working for a day. However, since I had the day off, she wanted to “go somewhere and do something.” We eventually decided to take advantage of my free time today and went to the gym. [...] |
