Starred in my Google Reader:
First, Arborio Rice Pudding with Cinnamon-Cardamom Streusel is another recipe from Sugar Plum that I really need to find time to try out.  It looks toe-curling good.
And then there’s Michael’s Simple Summer Pickles from Urban Garden Casual.  My cucumbers aren’t ripe yet, though. PICKLES!
While you’re thinking about pickles and pudding, read [...]

Recipes, EQ Style

I’ve been playing Everquest again.  The nostalgia factor is great, but I’ve abandoned my favored and familiar druid and shadowknight in lieu of trying out a new character class.  Based on my experiences with hunters in Lord of the Rings Online, I’m playing a ranger in EQ. It’s great. Dude! It’s so easy to bow [...]

Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream!

Joy the Baker is a blog I found via StumbleUpon last week. There are some absolutely delicious recipes there, but it was the Blueberry Sour Cream Ice Cream with Hot Fudge that caught my eye.
I was cooking all day on Mother’s Day (because I wanted to) and tried out this recipe on Sunday. The blueberries [...]

Some memories, for Mother’s Day.

Gardens and kitchens and songs and smiles remind me of Mom. My world is a lesser place without these things, and most of all, without her. Yet I find some familiar comfort in nurturing plants, in cooking, in hearing my daughter sing. And then there are those unexpected moments when I see [...]

More on loquats

Loquats are one of my favorite fruits, tying with home-grown strawberries, boysenberries, cherries, plums, and kumquats. They’re best fresh, and the preparation is simple: spit out the seeds!
I found a recipe for spiced sweet loquat pickles that looks delectable, and that got me started on a search for other recipes. Here are some [...]

Stew

I had one bottle of Guinness Extra Stout left in the fridge from gods know when, so I tried this recipe yesterday:  Guinness Stout Beef Stew (from Kathy Maister’s startcooking.com). It was very simple and didn’t require a lot of attention or fussing, except for the prep work in the beginning. I hate cutting up [...]

Saturday lunch

I’ve resolved to do more cooking from scratch - at least on weekends, when I have the time. It’s not only that I really enjoy cooking, but it’s a way to spend less money, avoid salt, get more fiber, etc. I picked up several different kinds of dried beans, barley, and lentils [...]

Today’s Todo’s

I was up much too late last night.
I went through and sorted about four years worth of digital photographs on my laptop to put up in a gallery online. This was a two and a half hour endeavor. There’s still another two or three years of photos on my desktop computer that I need [...]

Yum

I tried home-ec101’s Ground Beef and Cabbage skillet recipe last weekend. Very tasty, quick, and easy. The name is kind of deceptive; it’s more tomato and rice and ground beef than cabbage. Kind of like a cabbage roll without all the work.
home-ec’s recipe lists optional additions like diced bell pepper, frozen corn, and kidney beans. [...]
