Take your time.
There’s no need to rush in play-by-post roleplaying. The pace of a live, real-time roleplay chat encourages brevity, speed and less solid writing than forum roleplaying. By contrast, the pace of a play-by-post roleplaying game allows (and maybe even requires) a little more consideration and time to share something substantial with your audience.

If most of your posts on your chosen community’s roleplaying forum or message board are:
Off topic / OOC banter
Huge nested quotes followed by “QFE” (Quoted for Emphasis)
LOL and WTF
Smileys and emoticons
Song lyrics
Quizzes/Memes

Some gamers abuse the Enter key, sneaking in a hard return every time they think a pause might be warranted. [...]

The rest of the roleplaying intarwebs probably don’t think that edgy bit of lyric, quote rendered in rainbow-glow colors, or over-sized photoshopped JPG of a popular actor/actress is quite as cool as you do.
Particularly not once they’ve seen it fifty times.
If your posting system gives you the option to attach your signature, a good rule [...]
