Music in Middle-earth

I absolutely love the soundtrack for Lord of the Rings Online. It’s tied with Yasunori Mitsuda’s music for Xenogears for my all-time favorite music to listen to.  The songs are wonderfully evocative.  I get this misty-eyed sense of longing to be in Middle-earth whenever I listen to these songs. It’s almost a Pavlovian response.
Yes, it [...]

My, how time flies.

I did very little that was interesting or worthwhile over the weekend.
I slept most of Saturday, nursing a sore throat and fatigue.
On Sunday, I sat outside in the sun and read Modesitt’s The Eternity Artifact while Aya made beds of moss and orange leaves for her Barbies. The little one wanted to go inside [...]

Going home

Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar,
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.

How to Take Turns in Collaborative Settings is a must-read for anyone who is working on a collaborative writing project or in a play-by-post or forum-based roleplaying game. Weekend mumblings

It rained off and on all day Saturday, which was a blessing compared to the preceding week of hot, dry, and windy misery. The weather was particularly pleasant on Sunday - low clouds, a hint of a damp breeze, low 70s. Definitely not typical Memorial Day weekend temperatures!
Thanks to the warm rain, my mint plant [...]

Untroubled sentries of the shadowy night.

LotRO: Doom of the Last-king

The free content update of Chapter 13 has made its way from Roheryn to the rest of the servers in Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar.
I’ve decided that fishing tournaments might make for interesting roleplay events. It’s a good, In Character way to socialize with strangers over a shared hobby. So far, I [...]

Kidnappings and the closing of Ravensheart
Kidnappings and the closing of Ravensheart is by Briarius, et al. I brought Alysia into this storyline to try writing and roleplaying with a group of unfamiliar people. Not all are unfamiliar: I’ve roleplayed with Briarius before, but it was probably 10 years ago. Hopefully the posts won’t drag on [...]

playing catch-up

It’s been about half a year since I last followed any sites or community forums related to the Lord of the Rings Online or since I logged into the game on a regular basis. I guess having a lifetime subscription allows one the luxury of taking extended breaks like that.
The first time I logged in [...]

A few forum posts that caught my fancy and/or were starred in my Google Reader:

Seeking the North (Storm Divine @ rdi.dragonsmark forums): Great scene. . . if only the conversations weren’t in different colors. . . Light pink text is really hard to read.
Thoughts on Elvish Lore and Gameplay (theonekane @ lotro forums): Interesting analysis [...]
