I wanted to get to this on Friday, but somehow ran out of time. There has been some really entertaining play-by-post writing happening on various roleplay forums. Of those I frequent, the Dragon’s Mark - Red Dragon Inn roleplay forums have been a gold mine lately:
The characters in Motley Moxie on the Move [...]

At a roleplay community forum revolving around an MMORPG (yes, Victoria, there IS roleplay in MMOs), immersion was recently dredged up for discussion. The context: Roleplayers not playing with the same toys in the sandbox they share are responsible for each others’ disrupted immersion.
One player’s sandcastle is built where people with mystical powers are either [...]

Rhilshen Story Updates
You are my enemy at Dragon’s Mark involves Chryrie Nightsar and Alysia Skye’s dispute with Lord Veighn Yhaull and Alysia’s captivity at his hands. While I think the writing is good, and the story is very significant as far as character development is concerned, it ends somewhat abruptly because I got tired of [...]

Thinking more about Drama Free Roleplay.
My characters aren’t here to act as NPC’s for yours or vice versa.
That is a key point to keep in mind in free form roleplaying, where one of the main precepts is that you choose what happens to only your own character. But it gets sticky when roleplay [...]

Sympathizing with my current annoyance over RDI drama, a SWG roleplayer saw some similarities to another situation and pointed me to Elijas’ Guide to “Drama” Free Roleplay over on Starsider Galaxy. Elijas distills the requirements for avoiding OOC drama into four points:
IC Actions = IC consequences: “If you kidnap the leader of a roleplay [...]

I was going to post about my road trip, which was a lot of fun, but I’m feeling too annoyed to write about that right now.
Annoyed, irritated, frustrated, disgusted, and stupid.
Why? My main character at Dragon’s Mark has been out of play for more than a month. Stepping aside from that fact that [...]

Dragon’s Mark has recently been playing host to discussions about the return of guilds to Rhydin. (See Guild Wars Committee, The Guild Wars, Guild Shout Outs.) There’s a lot of frank opposition based on hypothetical and speculative arguments about the idea of guilds, the conflict they bring with them, and the use of [...]

I absolutely love the soundtrack for Lord of the Rings Online. It’s tied with Yasunori Mitsuda’s music for Xenogears for my all-time favorite music to listen to. The songs are wonderfully evocative. I get this misty-eyed sense of longing to be in Middle-earth whenever I listen to these songs. It’s almost a Pavlovian response.
Yes, it [...]

Spent some time roleplaying as Lia’Vrei in Star Wars Galaxies Thursday night. A couple of hours, actually.
Bella-donna took one Lia’Vrei, erstwhile archeological student and possibly the galaxies newest Sith apprentice, to what is referred to as “The Bunker.” It’s a bunker decorated as a cave on Dantooine. There they met a couple [...]

It is a generally a bad idea to roleplay online when your judgment is impaired from intoxication, exhaustion, illness, and/ or emotional upset. The problem is not only the sluggish and stunted creativity that accompanies mental fog; roleplaying with impaired judgment has put me in some situations that have been bizarre at best and [...]
