Except for nine months when I lived in an apartment, I have always shared my life with cats. Minutes-old kittens, semi- feral strays, 18 year old pet store finds, barn cats: they always share their names. . . eventually. Names are important.
For the two little ones we adopted a couple of weeks ago, we’ve batted around a variety of names. Merry and Pippin. Gray and Mr. Blackie. Mist and Shadow. Boromir and Faramir. Mithrandir and Morgoth.
Mith and Morg have been “working” names for the pair over the last week or so, but they finally shared their names. Those familiar with Everquest (has it really been 10 years?!) can appreciate them: Mithaniel Marr (still close to Mithrandir and oh so valorous and brave) and Bristlebane (because he has silver guard hairs or bristles in his fur and is a mischievous thief).

Mischievous thief indeed, gd Bristlebane going through his sleepy “meeeerrrlll meeeeeeeeerrrrrlll MEEEEERRLLLL I am going to burrow right through your skin into your heart and purr and knead you to death, and btw I just knocked over your glass of water and chewed through the corner of your book, purr” routine last night kept me up for hours.
Mithaniel spent about 15 minutes chewing on the corners of Mercedes Lackey’s The Free Bards early this morning. But at least he was relatively quiet about it!
Those are AWESOME names!
They’re so cuuuuuute~
We, as in Shawn and I, would like to know that, even though you don’t need it–we HIGHLY approve of these names and are proud. HELLO KITTIES!
