Weekly Reflection

It’s been a while since I’ve done this.

After a wretched week and miserable weekend, I agreed to “start over” with Brian. We’ll mutually try to work things out. This means attempting to be civil rather than sarcastic and antagonistic, and understanding and supportive of each other. The alternative is divorce. Or worse.

A “stomach bug” has been making the rounds at work and school. (I wonder if it’s related to tainted peanut butter, rather than a virus? That’s a rant for another day.) Monday afternoon, Aya developed chills and a fever that bounced up and down between 99 – 101, with no other symptoms than a headache. She had a restless night and her temperature crept back up in the early morning hours.
Brian kept her home from school today. . . but so far, no fever and still no symptoms. Normal appetite and mood. No complaints. Weird.

Prompted by months of morning sniffles, we took Aya to a pediatric allergy specialist last week. She had a series of allergy tests involving little needle pricks on her back. She didn’t know what to expect, and tried to be brave . . but ended up terrified, trembling and crying. Poor thing! They didn’t do the food series, but she is allergic to feathers and most of the “weeds” and trees found in the Sacramento valley (and our backyard). Since relocating isn’t an option right now, we got rid of the feather pillows in the living room and voila! her sniffles went away.

The weather has been warm (too warm) and dry (too dry). We are firmly tangled in a drought. I want to live somewhere where it RAINS again.

Work is going well, if busy. Staffing levels are evening out. Case loads aren’t. Last week, a great fuss was being made over one particular deposition set by another branch in our office, i.e., corporate client will be here, neaten up the office, dress up, be on your best behavior, etc. Ultimately only half the parties appeared, and the deposition ended up not going forward due to a number of clerical errors.

We all make mistakes, but I am definitely glad that mistake in particular wasn’t mine. I’d expect to be fired for an error of that magnitude.
