Chickens and more chickens

Fair Oaks Village takes its chickens seriously and, a few years ago, decided to pay homage to them with a sort of street faire - the Fair Oaks Chicken Festival. There’s live music, food and microbrewery vendors, and craft booths (many chicken-themed) set up in the center of the village with events in the local park, theater, community center, and a number of businesses (mostly antique stores, art galleries, and a few restaurants).
You’re probably wondering why the hell would anyone host a Chicken Festival. Aside from the fact that someone, somewhere has to celebrate National Chicken Month, Fair Oaks is well known for its feral flocks of chickens. About 300 of them roam the streets, fighting, roosting, and breeding in the parks. They throng about local restaurants where they beg for scraps and regard motor vehicles with utter nonchalance. (Why did the chicken cross the road? To bring lunchtime traffic to a screeching halt as it sauntered lazily over to the deli and peered in the window…)
Some residents consider them a nuisance, but they’re usually outshouted by those who adore the charm of G. gallus domesticus. Even if you’re not the sort to put a chicken on a pedestal and venerate it, chickens do make great pets.
Why not snuggle up next to a cozy car?
Look into mah eye.
See? I could be a pet.
Strike a pose.
They really do put the chicken on a pedestal.
(In the time it took me to write the first paragraph of this post, I was interrupted three times. This is not unusual. Is it so selfish of me to want time alone to write?!)

Great photographs!
I have a craving for something breaded and cooked in oil…
Though in all honesty, I probably wouldn’t mind at all having a chicken for a pet. I’ve gone to the birds recently!
