First day of school
Aug 19th, 2008 by Eve
There were some last minute clothing changes Monday morning. Aya decided she didn’t want to wear her pink dress because it was not comfortable. She got tearful when Brian insisted she should wear it anyway. In retrospect, it might have been uncomfortable because Brian left the tag on it. After a quick hug and consultation, she ended up in jeans and a pink t-shirt instead.
I mentioned before that Aya’s first grade class is supposed to be taught by two teachers who are splitting a contract. The first teacher didn’t show up today, as her son died on Friday. How awful! This was announced to the parents and – with a disturbing lack of tact – to the students as well. Because what every parent wants to do when their kid comes home on the first day of school is have a talk about death, right?
What a grim way to start the school year.
A substitute teacher will be covering the class for two weeks, but no one seems to know who will have the class after that. Fortunately, this substitute is one who had covered their classes in kindergarten, so she’s familiar to the kids.
