Weekend mumblings

018.JPG

It rained off and on all day Saturday, which was a blessing compared to the preceding week of hot, dry, and windy misery. The weather was particularly pleasant on Sunday – low clouds, a hint of a damp breeze, low 70s. Definitely not typical Memorial Day weekend temperatures!

Thanks to the warm rain, my mint plant by the front door has completely recovered from being pillaged last weekend to make mint syrup.  The tomatoes (Early Girl, Yellow Pear, and some bush variety) have a few yellow blossoms peeking out, and the chard is casting shadows.  The herb bed (parsley, chives, cilantro, oregano, dill) is doing surprisingly well, particularly considering half of it is out of sprinkler range.

I played Lord of the Rings Online most of Sunday morning, working on some old Angmar quests.  And reputation grinding (Rangers of Esteldin, Thorin’s Hall, Council of the North).  And crafting. And fishing.  I moved Alysial’s house to a different neighborhood in the Shire because I wanted to be closer to the fish.

So sleek, so fair!
What a joy to meet!
We only wish
to catch a fish,
so juicy-sweet!
–JRR Tolkien, The Hobbit

016.JPGMy daughter was shockingly hyper all day on Sunday. She spent about an hour running around at the park while I was gaming, then walked with Brian to the store. They came back carrying a bag full of pink and fuschia, with a Disney princess playground ball and a Barbie ballerina.  The ball went outside, where it matched the flowers. Too. Much. Pink.  (Overcast days make for such unbelievable, vivid colors outside!)

She still had energy to spare at dinner, so she played soccer in the front yard while I blanched some asparagus and Brian grilled hot dogs. I was going to make some red potato salad, but forgot until it was too late.   With unbridled enthusiasm, Aya ate most of the asparagus.  I hated asparagus when I was her age.

And of course, we toasted marshmallows over the coals and made S’mores. What a sticky mess that was.
