Little things: sweeter than candy
Apr 8th, 2008 by Eve
My dad and his wife stopped by last night and brought over a box of tangerines, with the instructions that Aya should eat those instead of candy. Like she eats that much candy? She doesn’t when I’m around, anyway; this is a girl who gets excited about broccoli and asparagus. But Brian’s father and sister do seem to load her up with more sweets than even a household could eat, at every available opportunity.
I dutifully relayed to Aya that the tangerines were better than candy (and they are). She wanted to try one last night, but by the time my dad left it was well past her bedtime, so I demurred and told her to wait until she got up in the morning.
Of course, that was the first thing she demanded this morning. She scarfed down one tangerine while I was getting ready for work, gave it a thumbs up, and then started burbling about how good it was.
“Mmmm! This is better than candy!” Aya enthused, then asked for one in her snack at school today. After about a minute, she decided that they were too good not to share and threw a few extras in with my lunch.
Aya’s sweeter than candy or tangerines.

There needs to be more kids with Aya’s view on candy. I wish I had been like that as a girl!
