I was up much too late last night.
I went through and sorted about four years worth of digital photographs on my laptop to put up in a gallery online. This was a two and a half hour endeavor. There’s still another two or three years of photos on my desktop computer that I need to go through, and I’m not really looking forward to it. There are going to be a lot of crappy, grainy cell phone pics to go through.
At least now, if a hard drive crashes, we haven’t lost all of Aya’s baby photos. One of Brian’s hard drives crashed during the storms earlier this year; I suspect we lost quite a few photos that were stored on it. And since I linked the gallery to Digibug, now Brian’s family can’t complain that they have no way to order photos of Aya. I suppose I should try ordering first, to see how well the ordering process works and what the print quality is like.
Lil and I were going to go to Ulta this morning, but her stylist called in sick, so she rescheduled for tomorrow. Brian and Aya and I went out anyway. We stopped by the weekly farmer’s market first and got a dozen organic/free range eggs, 10 immense local oranges, 3 baskets of huge strawberries from somewhere around San Diego, 2 huge fennel bulbs, 10 organic fuji apples, a bunch of broccoli and 3 enormous asian pears. Yum.
Then we went to Michael’s to pick up some posterboard. Aya’s the class ‘Superstar’ next week, which I guess means she fills out a questionnaire about herself and gets to plaster a posterboard with photos of herself and stuff. Her favorite color is pink, and she chose fluorescent pink poster board. It’s a retina-raping color. (Retina-raping is a term I learned from elf-fu. <3) The cashier mentioned that it was too early in the day for a color that bright. It was too bright. Arg.
We also stopped by the grocery store, which is a chore I absolutely hate. It’s crowded, the lights are too bright, it’s too noisy. And there are people who just stop in the middle of an aisle, pondering the merits of one brand of cereal over another, all the while oblivious to the patient patrons who are unsuccessfully trying to edge past them.
I sat in the sun until the mosquitoes came out. I napped for about a half hour, then made dinner, which was squash soup and garlic sourdough bread. The fennel salad turned out alright, nothing special: good texture, meh taste.
I finished up some contract typing, but I didn’t get the fish tank cleaned and I didn’t wash the cars either. I have about three RP posts which need writing — and I hope to get to those tomorrow.
Recording the squash soup ingredients here so I can make it again later:
- 1/2 banana squash (microwaved 8 minutes in 1/4 inch water)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 onion (diced)
- 1 granny smith apple (chopped)
- 1 carrot (chopped)
- 2 stalks celery (chopped)
- 3 cloves garlic (diced)
- 1 quart chicken stock
- 1/2 cup Buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese
- Nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, pepper to taste
